STOP RHINO POACHING

We need to put a stop to this Rhino Poaching and Create an awareness for Rhino and their Conservation, this start with you and me.

Dedicated to those involved in the fight against all forms of poaching.

"The survival of our wildlife is a matter of grave concern to all of us in Africa. These wild creatures amid the wild places they inhabit are not only important as a source of wonder and inspiration, but are an integral part of our natural resources and our future livelihood and well being.
In accepting the trusteeship of our wildlife we solemnly declare that we will do everything in our power to make sure that our children's grand-children will be able to enjoy this rich and precious inheritance.
The conservation of wildlife and wild places calls for specialist knowledge, trained manpower and money, and we look to other nations to co-operate with us in this important task - the success or failure of which not only affects the continent of Africa but the rest of the world as well."

  • BLACK SPRING DAY: Rhino Poaching Awareness
Now, traditionally Spring is a happy day when companies and people wear bright, joyful colours. SA should all wear black on Spring, 1st September and tie a black ribbon to the right hand mirror of their vehicles or motorbikes. The idea is that it should symbolise the following; a) We are fed-up with poachers and the leniency showed in their prosecution and sentences including affording them bail. b) In memory of ABSA and all the other Rhino's that were killed so senseless for their horns. c) To symbolise that the future is black for our Rhino population because our government shows lack of interest in fighting this? Please, please wear BLACK on 1st September 2011 and tie a BLACK ribbon around the right hand mirror of your vehicle. Spread the word. PLEASE join in this campaign! If you have contacts in the media – please help us

The Republic of South Africa (RSA) is custodian of over 90% of the worlds rhinos. Rhino poaching in RSA has escalated dramatically since 2008. During the decades preceding 2008 an average of 12 rhinos were poached in RSA annually. In 2009, 135 rhinos were slaughtered. This figure increased to a staggering 333 rhinos butchered in 2010. As of July 2011 a rhino is poached on average every 20 hours. What caused this sudden boom in poaching was when a prominent Vietnamese government officials wife stated publically that rhino horn has cured her of cancer. However, it has been proven that the horn has no medicinal value and is not a cure for cancer. Nevertheless, this statement spiked the demand for rhino horn in the Asian market. Whilst much is being done on many fronts to combat this epidemic in poaching rhinos, there are still two gaping loop holes in the South African legal system, which need to be addressed immediately: 1) Hunters and private rhino owners are still being issued with permits to legally kill these animals and many of the horns of these permitted hunts are leaving the country illegally. 2) The sentence for convicted rhino poachers are not severe enough to act as a deterrent for these poachers. Rhino poaching in SA In 2011 South Africa lost a total of 448 Black and White Rhino to poachers. The poaching death toll for 2012 in South Africa has already reached 150 which is more than double for the same period last year an is set to reach more than 600 for the year if drastic measures are not taken immediately to stem the poaching which is driven by the Asians...
